Game changers

My ears perk up every time I hear someone use the term of today's headline.

When we make an adjustment or replacement that's big enough to rename the game it's more than just a subtle tweak. It's a whole new game we're playing.

That's a big step, and perhaps the term's a bit over used, but it does happen. Our new Listening Lab reference room is a game changer as will be the new Octave Records studio.

The thing is, just because a game has changed doesn't necessarily mean it's better. It's just different.*

Moving from plugging your AC cables directly into the wall to inserting a Power Plant changes the game in a positive and noticeable way. But it doesn't have to be a major equipment addition. Rearranging your loudspeakers or repositioning your listening chair can make improvements that range from subtle to whole new types of games.

If the music gets better, it's the right game to be playing.

*In the case of the Listening Lab it's definitely better. Octave's new studios? Fingers crossed that when it's completed it'll be better.
