“Where words fail, music speaks.” – Hans Christian Andersen

In this issue: I have a first look at Florida Audio Expo 2025. Octave Records releases its latest album: jazz pianist Ryan Benthall’s Sovereign Mind. Wayne Robins finds much to like in The Eternal Return, a new album by Slinky Vagabond. I review the Analogue Productions 2-LP reissue of Steely Dan’s Katy Lied. Rudy Radelic finds a practical way to catalog an album collection using Discogs. Paul McGowan has another excerpt from his book series, The Audiophile’s Guide, about understanding digital audio. John Volanski covers the 2025 NAMM musical instrument industry show. I continue my series on how to play in a rock band with some sartorial advice.

I talk with Bill Dull and Lazaro Rodriguez of Triad Magnetics, to demystify one of the most unsung and important audio components: the transformer. Ray Chelstowski talks with guitarist/musical director/singer Jimmy Vivino about his new album, Gonna Be 2 of Those Days. Harris Fogel attends a live music session by Living Colour, complete with a new loudspeaker premiere. From The Listening Chair checks out the Ansuz Acoustics PowerSwitch D3 for audio networking. PMA Magazine covers 100 years of composer Gabriel Fauré. PS Audio wins some Editors’ Choice awards. Ken Kessler looks back at reel-to-reel releases of yore. We wrap up the issue with the cat’s meow, a dual purpose, and by scratching the surface.
