We audiophiles are a pretty predictable bunch. Go to any audio trade show and you'll hear the same music coming out of the majority of the rooms. How many times did Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Eagles, or Nils Lofgren's music permeate the halls?
It makes perfect sense to choose music that shows off our systems in a demonstration. Playing something unremarkable does not underline the aspects that help it shine.
But, once the demos are over and the system's outstanding qualities have been appreciated, the real joys of owning a high-end rig come to play. Music—not sound effects, not ultra depth recordings—just great tunes take center stage and we are transported to a better place.
We are predictable when it comes to the demo, but when the lights lower down and it's just you and the tunes, that's when the magic happens.
