Looking in the wrong place

A friend of mine is asking me for advice. He wants to have "audiophile sound" in a situation where that won't be possible. It's kind of like asking what combination of extras you can add to a Big Mac to make it gourmet.

Ain't gonna happen.

When physical constraints around one's home limit you to what's possible, it's often best to readjust your expectations. If you can't have high-end performance, what can you have and how do you make the most of it?

I think it's always best to step back from a problem, figure out what's possible and probable, and then dive in deep to maximize what you have. A smallish room with the right speakers, electronics and setup will usually outperform attempts at cramming something bigger into that same space.

Figuring out first what is appropriate for what you have to work with can often lead to better results and happier moments when the lights go low and you press play.
