Further to John Hunter's thoughts on subwoofers in yesterday's post, do we use our logic or our ears to figure out how to integrate a sub (or any gear) into our systems?
Logic would suggest that using the subwoofer's high level input makes no sense. After all, magnifying the faults of our main power amplifier runs counter to our mantra of less is better, purer is superior.
Yet, our ears tells us differently. By adding the colorations inherent in the main amplifier to the subwoofer we achieve a different outcome. The subwoofer more easily disappears.
As John suggests, sometimes it's best to put our logic and our meters in the closet, and rely instead upon our ears.
