Over the years, I've written extensively about the listening room and its importance in the system. Play your stereo outdoors and the sound is lost. Play it inside the wrong room and you've got more problems than a porcupine in a balloon factory.
As I may have mentioned, over the past few months I have been deep into the writing of a new series of The Audiophile's Guide. Ten books, each delving deep into the art and science of building a magical system. I hope to launch the series in February, 2025 (today's post's cover image is of the book).
One of those 10 books is dedicated solely to The Listening Room., which brings me to the subject of today's post.
Taking our own advice and experience to heart, we have just finished PS Audio's new Music Room, called The Listening Lab. Here is a picture of Caleb and Chris listening to the first tracks.
Aside from the thrill of auditioning a new anything for the first time, when it works there's hardly anything better. And, boy, does it work.
I am reminded once again of just how big of a difference the room makes. Without much of an equipment change—we brought all the gear down from Music Room Three upstairs—and plunked it down in basically the same position, the improvement in sonics is nothing short of breath taking.
This new Listening Lab elevates the sonic experience to levels I had only dreamed of. I hope at some point you will get an opportunity to visit us and hear what we're hearing. It is truly an extraordinary experience.
There's plenty of tweaking and tuning left to do, but if first impressions are an indicator of the final product, this is one heck of a room to visit.
