Owning music

"I don't want to own music anymore".

What an interesting turn of events in this era of streaming. When I started in this field, fifty years ago, our collection of albums was essential. You could have the biggest, baddest stereo system on the planet but, if you didn't have albums to play on it, there wasn't much point in the sport.

This ownership issue still applies, of course, for us vinyl and SACD lovers. You can't stream LPs, and the number of DSD streaming services is limited to a tiny handful.

But, for the rest that want the freedom to choose amongst the millions of tracks and artists, available at the touch of a finger, streaming brings its own treasures.

Personally, as a registered glutton, I prefer both. I've got my stash of music no one else possesses, my smattering of Audiophile delight "mixtape" compilation discs, and so forth.

I don't suppose I'll ever get to the point of letting all physical media go, but it is certainly an interesting day and age we live in.
