Musical types

How many times have I heard someone explain to me that their system shines when playing jazz or classical but kind of sucks on rock music? Or the opposite?

Too often to count.

Of course, the best systems excel at all types of music as long as that music is well recorded. But, often, we've made our system choices based on a particular genre of music—only to then be disappointed when we try another style.

If find that the problem isn't with electronics, but instead it's the loudspeakers that seem more genre specific.

One of the wonderful traits of our Aspen loudspeakers is their ability to not only play all genre of music but to really shine when doing so.

And this is one of the criteria I focus on when auditioning a new design of loudspeaker (or a tweak to an existing speaker). I have my baker's dozen of musical tracks that range from delicate classical to raucous techno and everything in between.

Because if the speaker designer did their job the system excels at all types of music.

It is rare, but once you get a taste of the universally "right" performance from Beethoven to Bon Jovi you know you've got a winner.
