How many of us aren't really here? I don't mean physically, but mentally.
Back in the early 1970s, about the time I was moving out of my life as a "soldier" (for those familiar with my memoirs 99% True you'll recall I was a rock and roll DJ for the US Army), and beginning a new life as a high-end audio manufacturer, there was a very popular book published by a self help guru by the name of Ram Dass. The name of that book was Be Here Now.
I'll never forget the title of that book (though I never read it) because it struck a chord.
How many of us live our lives in the future? Each day waking and focusing our efforts on the next step: the coming promotion, the upcoming vacation, the weekend, the new piece of kit that will make life better.
For many of us, we spend more time worrying and striving for what will come later than simply enjoying what we have right now.
Of course, we have to live part of our lives planning out what comes next, but I find that all too often we get that balance wrong. Certainly I do.
At least for me, it's good to take a deep breath, count my blessings, enjoy what is right in front of me.
