Hubris

Hubris describes a personality quality of extreme or foolish pride or dangerous overconfidence combined with arrogance.

It also describes the overconfidence of those who cannot accept their observations without proof of measurement.

They lack trust of their own senses, a trait that starts at a very young age. We imagine things as children and our protective parents demonstrate the tricks our imaginations plays on us.

And so we learn to safely navigate the complicated world we live in.

The danger comes when we refuse to accept that which is right in front of our senses—believing the power of modern science and measurements has managed to figure everything out.

The truth, as any scientist will tell you, is that all we really know is that we don't know.
