If you read any of the magazines or blogs in our industry you're probably aware that the high-end isn't attracting a lot of newbies to the field.
Why is that? I read a lot of opinions in the letters to the editor sections of TAS and Stereophile - most opinions centering on the notion that up and coming music lovers simply don't care about the quality of their music as much as we did. I am not sure I agree.
I have never bought into the notion that any generation is different from any other generation when you get down to basics. I am sure you're all familiar with this famous quote from 1274 AD "The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them."
So if we are the same and all that's changed is our surroundings, why isn't the high-end growing?
Tomorrow we'll look at some ideas. Feel free to comment and add to the process.
