The dictionary defines snobbery. "A person who believes that their tastes in a particular area are superior to those of other people."
I'd say that certainly sums up some of the folks I see from time to time.
The audio elite.
Kind of the opposite of the folks embracing yesterday's post about newbies.
The good news for me is that I seem to be seeing less and less of it.
Fifty years ago, when I first started out in the field of high-end audio, people striving to reach or maintain their elite HiFi "expert" status seemed to be the thing. Sure, there were the generous and friendly bunch, but those seemed in the minority. The mainstream audiophile I met back in the day looked down their noses at me and Stan: two bumpkins from out of nowhere trying to horn in on the establishment.
But it's probably helpful to remember that back then it was considered a gentrified sport.
Thankfully, what we love has grown into more of a classless, welcoming enterprise.
I, for one, applaud the direction it has taken.
