Are watts watts?
A customer just emailed me a really good question and while I know quite a number of my readers know the answer, there are no doubt an equal number that do not.
"Are 35 watts from a 50 watt amplifier the same as 35 watts from a 200 watt amplifier?"
Great question. The simple answer is yes. 35 watts is 35 watts regardless of what amplifier it came from or the amp's capabilities. Of course, this does not answer the deeper question of wattage quality. That question might read more like:
"Do all watts sound the same?"
And the answer here is quite different. Simply stated, no. But, that is fodder for another days's post.
