Let's get down to basics The primary responsibility of a power cable is to deliver lots of power and to do so without introducing any noise or current restrictions. This fundamental task is clearly an essential element in protecting your system against noise while providing all the power necessary for maximum performance. This goal has been achieved in grand fashion by combining the noise protection and power delivery capabilities of the xStream Statement Cable with the non-current limiting and lowered impedance benefits of our High Current Ultimate Outlet. This product is PS Audio's finest AC cable ever; the Ultimate circuitry has been optimized for direct connection and has been incorporated into a completely redesigned Ultimate Outlet chassis. It was necessary to enlarge the Ultimate Outlet chassis to accommodate the additional circuitry as well as  the termination of the xStream Cable's enormous 6 Gauge conductors.This combination has resulted in the most complete list of features and benefits ever bestowed upon an AC power cord:
 Quadaxial shielding of the Ultimate xStream CablesA Quadaxial cable simply means that there are four levels of shielding. The shielding protects the AC inside the cable from outside noises and, perhaps more importantly, the shielding protects the surrounding equipment from noises generated by the unit being powered. To make a Quadaxial cable, you first wrap two layers of aluminum foil around a jacketed conductor, then you weave a copper braid over the foil, then you add yet another copper braid over that. Each of the four shields will reduce airborne noise by approximately 20 to 35 dB, and so a Quadaxial cable could conceivably reduce noise by nearly 100 dB. That's quiet! Once we had the best shielding available on our cable we went the extra mile and impregnated ferrite into the outer jacket of the xStream Statement Cable. Ferrite is a ferrous material that acts like a big cleaning device for high frequency noise. The xStreams are the only power cables in the world with distributed ferrite in the jacket and are the cleanest lowest noise power cables in the world. Common mode and differential mode noise rejection The engine inside the Ultimate xStream Cable that performs the cleaning of the AC works without constricting the music, the video, or the power in any way. It is a balanced piece of magnetics known as a balun.  A Balun is a balanced magnetic coupler built around a donut of powdered iron with a wire wrapped around each half of the donut. When AC power comes into the balun's two wrappings of wire, the balanced design cancels out anything in common to the two wires. Unlike series filters that only work on noise over a specified frequency range, a well-designed balun cancels all noise at all frequencies. Yet, due to the small number of wire turns, it does not restrict power as a conventional power conditioner would. Differential and common mode noise are the two basic forms of noise found on home AC lines. Both are bad, and both are reduced significantly by the Ultimate. Most other conditioners address one or the other type of noise, and only above a certain frequency. No device other than the Ultimate Outlet can handle both types of noise with no power restrictions. The Ultimate xStream's internal High Current balun reduces common mode noise by up to 40 dB, meaning that whatever noise is on the line will be reduced by over 100 times, and also handles differential noise. This major cleaning effort takes place at virtually all frequencies, not only at the very high frequencies attended to by typical power filters or conditioners.  This is a major improvement over any other passive power conditioner.Protection is completely bulletproof The UXC provides complete protection from surges, spikes and non-direct lightning strikes. It protects in a non-destructive manner that will never fail. The vast majority of protection schemes employed by surge protectors of 'other manufacturers' use a MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) to accomplish the task. This applies to protection schemes employed by the inexpensive Wal Mart variety to the many $1000 schemes available. The problem with a MOV is that it will degrade over time and the number of 'hits' to its circuitry. Each time a spike or surge is encountered by a MOV type device (and these can happen on a daily basis), the MOV degrades and will not perform as well when the next problem comes down the AC wires. Within a few weeks of operation most MOV based systems have already begun to degrade. Not a good thing when you are trying to protect your valuable system from damage. The Ultimate xStream Cable protects in a completely different and non-degrading manner. The UO uses Tranzorbers. Tranzorbers are unique devices that closely resemble a Zener Diode clamp. They are far more expensive than a MOV and will never degrade their performance even when 'hit' thousands of times. If a surge or spike comes down the AC line, the Tranzorber will quickly 'fire' and clamp the voltage so your equipment is completely protected. Should a surge or spike be of such high magnitude that it might possibly damage the inter  nal Tranzorber, a protection fuse opens up, and the the UXC's internal power relay disconnectes your equipment from the AC power.The UXC provides complete protection for your equipment. Machined feet provide vibration reduction It is well known that vibrations caused by your loudspeakers can degrade the ultimate sonic performance of equipment. This is because the internal electronics of all equipment are slightly microphonic, meaning they act like microphones and amplify the vibrations. While this phenomena is very slight in power equipment, it is still a factor that should be dealt with. The UXC comes with machined 'spikes' that reduce the contact area of the UXC to an absolute minimum, thus reducing the induced mechanical vibrations into the UXC and improving the performance of the device.
