The UPC Power Center is a major step forward in the art of passive power cleaning and surge protection.

Video powered through a UPC takes on a three dimensional quality that has to be seen to be believed.  Audio systems have more depth, better resolution and never at the expense of restricted power, so common in other company's AC power devices today.

Based on a completely redesigned and much improved common mode Balun filter, like that used in the Ultimate Outlet™ series of power products, the UPC 200 can provide unrestricted AC power to your equipment along with major audio and video performance improvements.

Passive AC cleaning at its best
There are two forms of power conditioning: passive and active.  In a passive system we can filter unwanted noise and provide a one way gate for that noise.  In an active system we can add energy and manipulate the AC in any number of ways; as we do in the Power Plant™ series of AC regenerators.

Both systems have their pluses and minuses.  In a properly designed passive system there’s almost perfect energy efficiency, little chance for anything to go wrong, low cost and you can build a lot of cleaning and protection capability into a relatively small box.  Active systems, although superior to passives in their performance, are less efficient, far more complex in their design, more expensive and need a lot more chassis space.

With the introduction of PS Audio’s Ultimate Outlet™ series of passive AC cleaning and protection devices, we managed to prove to the world that high performance and low cost could be mentioned in the same breath.

Ultimate Outlets, or UO’s as they have become known, passively rids the AC power of high frequency noise without restricting power to a piece of equipment.  This was a significant breakthrough in AC power conditioning because nearly every other AC power product on the market either restricts current as it cleans or provides no measurable benefit to the AC line if it doesn’t restrict.

Ultimate Power Cell™ technology
The UPC series is based on a new technology exclusive to PS Audio, the Ultimate Power Cell™.  The UPC 200 has two Ultimate Power Cells inside, and they can be used separately or together depending on your application.

Ultimate Power Cells™ (UPC) combine the best of the High Current Ultimate Outlet, a Balun and its associated components, along with a 10 fold increase in energy storage and release, improved core material and a few engineering tricks we are not at liberty to write about.

UPC’s provide a one way gate for AC power line noise.  This noise is generated by cell phones, computers, vacuum cleaners, radio and television stations and even your own AV system.

Power line noise is inherent in every home’s AC power and keeping it out of your equipment can provide major performance benefits both to the audio signal as well as the video signal.

Another advantage of the UPC module’s function as a one way gate for power line noise is keeping garbage generated by the very equipment you are trying to improve and protect out of everything else plugged into the wall socket.

The typical home in the US has 15 amp receptacles that can deliver up to 1800 watts.  The UPC-200 can take advantage of all the power available from your home's receptacle as there are two modules inside, each capable of passing up to 20 amps of unrestricted power. With the UPC’s improved cleaning and energy storage and release functions, each Ultimate Power Cell can provide clean and protected AC power to your AV equipment.

The UPC 200
The UPC 200 is the first in a series of products and includes two, 20 amp capable UPC modules inside.

Each module is connected to a rear mounted Power Port and is isolated from the second internal UPC module.  This arrangement allows the user to separately power their equipment, providing isolation for digital and analog, or power amps and source equipment, or video and audio.

The UPC 200 is unique in its flexible approach to power conditioning.  Using the bottom mounted switch on the UPC 200, you can combine both internal 20 amp capable UPC modules into one ultra high current device.

This effectively doubles the energy storage, reduces the impedance of the UPC 200 in half and turns the 200 into the highest current, lowest impedance passive AC power device on the market today.  Talk about unrestricted AC power!  When the 200 is placed in parallel mode, there isn’t a power amplifier on the planet that can faze the UPC 200.  Everything connected to this unique device will benefit from dramatic performance improvements.

Used as a dual UPC module, one zone can power most power amplifiers while the second zone handles either another power amp (perfect for dual mono amps), a video source, or any application where you want isolation.  Perhaps one UPC 200 is used to separate and power all the analog and digital source components, while a second UPC 200 is used is parallel mode to power your big stereo or mono block amplifiers.

The UPC 200 is an extremely versatile performer that provide brilliant performance benefits for any system.

Surge protection is second to none
Using our now famous Tranzorber and super MOV technology for surge protection, the UPC 200 provides 100% surge and spike protection for anything connected.

Non-volatile Tranzorber clamps are used as the primary AC surge and spike protection in all PS power purifying products.  Tranzorbers are far superior to MOV’s for protection because of their sharp and nearly instantaneous clamping characteristics and because they do not degrade over time.  MOV’s on the other hand, the devices typically found in 99% of all surge protectors, are slower to respond and can degrade over time.

UPC’s take advantage of both technologies.  Tranzorbers are PS Audio’s first line of defense in the war against surges and spikes.  The problem with Tranzorbers is they can be damaged by too large a surge and so we protect them from damage by removing them from the line if there’s too big a surge.  That’s where the backup super sized MOV’s come into play: we wouldn’t want to count on them for our primary defense but they are just fine as the backup provider.  These MOV’s need to clamp long enough for the internal power switch in the UPC to disconnect the AC power from your equipment.  It’s a very foolproof protection management product.

While other manufacturers rely solely on MOV’s, without the internal automatic power switch to remove your equipment from the power line in an extreme circumstance, or in the case of products that do have an AC bypass device, they do so at the expense of adding a large and restricting power inductor in the AC path, only PS Audio provides foolproof, non-volatile protection without restricting the power.

The entire surge and spike section is built onto a removable plug in board.  Should any damage occur to the surge board, or if you need to change mains voltages to another country, it is easily replaced by the user with another board.

The UPC 200
The UPC 200 is but the first in a series of new products from PS that will further promote our pure power mission statement.  Future models, all based on the Ultimate Power Cell technology will be announced in mid 2005.

German Shuko VersionThe UPC 200 is a breakthrough product providing performance benefits and protection beyond any passive power device in the world, regardless of make or model.

100% AC protection, dual or parallel Power Cell modules, Power Port AC receptacles all make the UPC 200 one of the finest AC power products we have ever proudly put our name on.

When power purity is what you are looking for, the UPC 200 provides it.  Safe, clean and improved power is the foundation of any good AV system.  Don’t compromise with second best.  Go for the gold,  Go for the UPC 200.
