![]() Power Products > Ultimate Outlet High Current Ultimate Outlet Starting at just $299.00! 'Now, the sound is much more open and transparent sounding and I can hear everything clear as a bell, with no compressed sound. And the Bass is outstanding!!!!! Tight and firm. I believe the Ultimate is so good that you don't need any further filtering devices at all!' B. MathewsIn addition to the Standard version of the Ultimate Outlet, there is the High Current model. The difference between the Standard and the High Current model The Standard version of the Ultimate is recommended for all source equipment such as preamplifiers, CD players, tape decks and DVD players. In addition to source equipment, the Standard is also recommended for solid state power amplifiers that output less than 100 watts per channel and video equipment of all kinds. The high Current model is better suited for higher current applications such as big power amplifiers, projectors, and tube equipment. Any one of the two Ultimate models can handle any amount of power your AC wall socket can deliver, but from a purist's standpoint the Ultimates perform best when matched to their loads. As an example, when we power our smaller test amp (a 100 watt Classe amp) we find that the Standard Ultimate Outlet does a superb job of improving the sound of this amplifier. The same Standard Ultimate Outlet also dramatically improves the video picture on our Sony Wega and our Mitsubishi RPTV. Adding the High Current model of the Ultimate to any of these products has an even greater performance benefit. So, the rule of thumb is class AB solid state amplifiers of 100 watts or greater requi re the High Current model of the Ultimate Outlet. So too would any tube power amplifier of 100 watts or greater, as well as any class A solid state amplifier.Solid state amplifiers of less than 100 watts, all video equipment and tube power amplifiers of less than 100 watts are greatly improved by the Standard Ultimate Outlet. Inside the High Current Version What differentiates the High Current model of Ultimate Outlet from the Standard Ultimate model is found both inside and outside. Inside the Ultimate is a double gauge balun. The balun, a balanced magnetic filter, has the equivelant of two separate 10 gauge windings on both the hot and the neutral. Doubling the size of the wire gauge on the High Current model vs. the Standard UO cuts the DC resistance of the wire in half providing a much 'shorter' and direct path for the AC line voltage to reach your equipment. The AC impedance of this circuit remains identical, thus the cleaning action of the High Current Ultimate is just as spectacular as the Standard Ultimate Outlet. On the Outside, the High Current model features a Power Port AC receptacle on US and Canadian units. The Power Port is our own high-end AC outlet with 15 coats of polished nickel on all surfaces. The improvements of the Power Port over the standard Hospital Grade outlet found on the Standard Ultimate Outlet are significant. What about the protection the Ultimate Provides? The UO provides complete protection from surges, spikes and non-direct lightning strikes. It protects in a non-destructive manner that will never fail. The vast majority of protection schemes e mployed by surge protectors of all kinds use a MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) to accomplish the task. The problem with a MOV is that it will degrade over time and the number of 'hits' to its circuitry. Each time a spike or surge is encountered by a MOV type device, the MOV degrades and will not perform as well when the next problem comes down the AC wires.Non-volatile Tranzorber clamps are used as the primary AC surge and spike protection in all PS power purifying products. Tranzorbers are far superior to MOV’s for protection because of their sharp and nearly instantaneous clamping characteristics and because they do not degrade over time. MOV’s on the other hand, the devices typically found in 99% of all surge protectors, are slower to respond and can degrade over time. So, UO’s take advantage of both technologies. As mentioned, Tranzorbers are PS Audio’s first line of defense in the war against surges and spikes. The problem with Tranzorbers is they can be damaged by too large a surge and so we protect them from damage by removing them from the line if there’s too big a surge. That’s where the backup super sized MOV’s come into play: we wouldn’t want to count on them for our primary defense but they are just fine as the backup provider. These MOV’s need to clamp long enough for the internal power switch in the UPC to disconnect the AC power from your equipment. It’s a very foolproof protection management product. While other manufacturers rely solely on MOV’s, without the internal automatic power switch to remove your equipment from the power line in an extreme circumstance, or in the case of products that do have an AC bypass device, they do so at the expense of adding a large and restricting power inductor in the AC path, only PS Audio provides foolproof, non-volatile protection without restricting the power. Is this the only package the High Current models come in? No. The High Current version of the Ultimate Outlet are also available in the Power Director. The Power Director features four High Current Ultimate Outlets inside, advanced protection (even over the Ultimate Outlet), and four separate zones of power each available to help isolate equipment. ![]() This economical package is the right choice if you need more than one Ultimate Outlet to power your equipment. The Power Director provides four separate Ultimate Outlets to power your digital devices, analog preamps and processors, power amplifiers and receivers and video products. Separating these devices electrically yields superior results both sonically and visually. If you do not need four separate zones of isolated power as provided by the Power Director, then one, two or even three Ultimate Outlets can be utilized effectively in your AV system. Many customers find that mixing and matching both High Current models and Standard models of the Ultimate Outlet provides additional benefits when costs are considered. Mounting the UO Using the optional Mounting Plate for the High Current UO allows you a lot of flexibility when it comes to mounting the product. ![]() You can mount the Ultimate off of the floor by attaching the Mounting Plate to the wall next to your AC outlet. The Mounting Kit provides all the necessary hardware to accomplish this. You can also hang the Ultimate Outlet from the ceiling for a projector, or you can place the Ultimate in the ceiling using the Mounting Kit as well. The small size of the UO is optimum for wall and ceiling mount as well as simply placing the Ultimate behind your equipment or equipment rack. There's nothing like the Ultimate Outlet The Ultimate Outlet is based on science, results and a proven track record of both performance and protection. We would suggest that if you are not using a Power Plant in your system then the next best piece of equipment you can add is an Ultimate Outlet. Conect one of these beauties up to your system with an xStream Power Cord and life w on't get much better. The Ultimate Outlet provides one of the all time best improvements at an affordable price we have ever offered or seen. What is the cost of the Ultimate? $299 US retail for the 15 amp Ultimate. $399 US retail for the High Current Ultimate. US Retail on the Standard Ultimate Outlet includes the Ultimate with one spec grade duplex socket and a shielded three foot AC input cord. US Retail on the High Current Ultimate Outlet includes the Ultimate with one Power Port duplex socket and a shielded three foot AC input cord.
