Beta testing is the practice of sampling a small number of new products to a select group of testers in an effort to uncover any unexpected results before the equipment is made public.
Beta testing is the process by which a pre-market product is sampled by a select number of chosen testers. The process is done in the hopes of uncovering any unexpected results before the equipment is sold to the public.
Beta testing is common in the software industry, but rather uncommon in the audio video industry. Perhaps even more uncommon is PS Audio's open policy practice of publishing the Beta Tester's results for public scrutiny. These results and the Beta Tester's comments appear in unedited form.
Beta testers were selected from the PS Audio member's only section of the website, which is open to the public. Click Here to become a PS Audio Member.
Once chosen, each Beta tester had a PCA-2 preamplifier sent to their home. If there were any problems encountered, the Beta tester was asked to communicate with our technical staff and, in some cases, the problems were resolved before they continued to make their evaluations. This process helped us make immediate improvements to the production units that were being readied.
